Dress Up Tired Furniture, by:
Kathy Wilson
Furniture is one of our most expensive home decorating items, and often times we cannot afford to replace what we already own, or can get cheaply. There are several creative ways to take ordinary, tired furniture and turn it into a custom piece of art! (Or at least not make you cringe when you have company!)
1.Slipcovers are a lifesaver! They can be difficult to sew, but you can pick up quality slipcovers online for less than $20, (Sometimes less than $10!) Visit my slipcover page at
http://thebudgetdecorator.com/slipcovers.html to find out where. You can also recover dining chairs easily if they have a removable seat. Simply stretch pretty fabric over the seat, and use a staple gun to attach in the back. Throwing a nice quilt over a sofa that just needs a little color or a cover up is a quick way to casually dress it up without expense, and can be done before last minute company arrives! Add a throw and some pillows, and you have instant disguise.

How To Prepare Your Outdoor Living Space for Summer
(ARA) - Memorial Day and Labor Day are traditionally viewed as the unofficial beginning and end of summer. Between holidays, life shifts outdoors as many homeowners make the most of the season. To enjoy as much time outside as possible, homeowners are increasingly taking advantage of their decks and patios to create true outdoor living spaces.
Now more than ever, homeowners view their outdoor living areas as extensions of the home rather than as separate, rarely-used spaces. As the outdoor living trend continues to grow, homeowners are expanding the look and feel of their home's interior, including the design, furnishings and entertainment features, outside.

Give Dad a Gift That Will Allow Him to Cook Like a Pro
This summer, dads everywhere will be manning backyard barbeque grills. Those who have just your basic grill will most likely stick to what they know -- flipping steaks, brats and burgers.
But this year, you can help make dad's dream of creating professional chef quality results come true by letting him in on the 'secret' to professional grilling -- infrared technology.

An Easy and Inexpensive Way to Redecorate
(ARA) - Whether you've moved into your home recently or been there a while, there's an "itch" every homeowner
feels at one time or another -- the need to redecorate.
For some that means painting the walls and getting all new furniture, but if you don't have a lot of money to spend, an easy way to transform the look and feel of a home is to update the lighting.
If you're like most people, you've probably been putting off shopping for new lighting fixtures because it's just too daunting of a task. You know that if you visit a lighting showroom, it will be so packed you won't be able to find what you want.
So what's the alternative? These days, more and more people, are doing their home improvement shopping online. A site worth checking out for your lighting needs is
www.lightingshowplace.com. In addition to offering an extensive searchable catalog, the company also makes showroom consultants available over the phone to answer customer questions.

The Right Landscape Fabric Can Make a Difference
(ARA) - Spending time making your landscape look superb can add to your house's curb appeal, but nothing is worse than putting in all that effort only to deal with weed problems. The solution might be in choosing the right landscape fabric -- one that's designed for weed control.
Quality and effectiveness vary widely among the weed control fabrics available in the marketplace. Almost all weed problems come from airborne weed seeds that settle and germinate in the top mulch. Most landscape fabrics on the market do not successfully combat this problem. The key is to use a fabric with limited openings; ideally a material that matches the soil's ability to absorb water. Three products on the market offer this type of control, Weed-X, Weed-Proof, and Gardeneer Weed-Shield by Dalen Products. Weed-X in particular has been rated number 1 for stopping weeds by nine independent testing labs.
Weed-X is a patented, dual-layer material that is black on one side and light gray on the other. The small pores will help eliminate weeds and give you the best level of control in your yard. Find Weed-X and Weed-Proof at Wal-Mart stores. Visit
www.weedxworks.com
or call Dalen at (800) 747-3256 for more information.

Tips for Decorating Kids Rooms
(ARA) - We all need a space of our own, now matter our age. Children can thrive when there is a place in their
home that nurtures their imaginations and their sense of belonging.
But the children's furniture and home dcor industry is a multi-billion dollar business with such a staggering variety of choices that parents may feel overwhelmed. You may be tempted to let your child live with white walls and beige carpet until he is old enough to tackle the redecorating on his own. But a few of the same principals and techniques designers use can help you create a room your child will love.
Wallpaper murals are a hot design trend, with many home improvement shows using them to create focal points or accents in nearly every room of the house. They're a great option for a children's room because they're easy to install and offer thousands of images that will fit virtually any design theme you choose. Lowes home improvement stores across the nation sell kid-friendly wallpaper murals by Environmental Graphics for under $100. Designs range from the sports themed like the stands of a baseball stadium as seen from the field, to jungle animals and under seascapes. To learn more and view kid-friendly mural options, visit a Lowe's store near you.
