Teen Bedroom Decorating: Top 5 Quick Tricks, by: Kathy Wilson |
Decorating a teens room is one of the most sought after pieces of advice from home decorators, but doesn't have to be as hard as some make it seem. Teens are just looking for a way to express their own sense of style and creativity, and parents are just looking for a way to save a few dollars while doing it! Here are my top five tricks for making your teens happy with their space.
1. Add color. Use color in a teens room with much more abandon than you would in a public area - teens respond to color and pattern. Paint each wall a different color with the most dramatic color directly behind the bed for drama. (They are teens, after all!:)) Don't forget the ceiling.

Spring Decorating Tips |
|

Spring is a time of freshness, radiance, brightness and energy. Most of us like to reflect these feelings in our homes but are not quite sure how to go about it. We want to bring the outdoors in and fill our homes with light, color and radiant energy. There are several things we can do to accomplish this: 1. Flowers - Fill empty spaces with fresh live flowers or the ever popular silk artificial flowers. Think beyond the normal scope of sticking a handful of flowers in a traditional vase. Fill a delicate teacup with your favorite blossoms. Make birch bark vases and hang them on the wall. Run garlands or vines around your ceiling for a lively colorful border. Go to garage or estate sales and buy old jars, bottles, and containers. Fill them with colored water and then add your favorite flowers and/or greenery. Use brilliant bright planters and pots for your flowers. Group them together for a more vibrant display.

Sensational Sunrooms |
|

For those who are opting for a tranquil and spacious sunroom, consider utilizing calming blues and greens are part of your sunroom color scheme. Popular garden motifs and the concept of "bringing the outdoors inside" highlight a soothing color scheme that is comprised of a soothing blue and green color palette.
In contrast, yellows and oranges impart vibrant energy to a space and lend themselves toward the creation of a stimulating sunroom space. Consider these types of brilliant and vivid hues when the goal is to establish an exciting sunroom space.
A Few Painting Ideas:
- Painted ladders to be used to hold flower pots or as end tables
- Painted screens hinged together make wonderful corner accents and can be painted solid, stenciled or distressed - depending on the motif of your sunroom.
- Floors of sunrooms can also be painted - either with designs to simulate a rug or in patterns to simulate tile. Special floor paints are available that will have maximum adhesion to the surface you're painting and maximum wear resistance.

(ARA) - Home may be where you hang your hat, but the backyard is where you hang out. Today, backyards are losing ground to space under the roof, as well as shrinking lot sizes. That makes their limited square footage take on a heightened importance. "Today's backyard is considerably smaller, the result of consumer desire for low-maintenance lifestyles, as well as master planned communities that provide neighborhood amenities like parks and pools," says Chelsey Gardner, an exterior design expert with Dallas-based Creative Curb Appeal.

Decorating Without Divorcing, by: Kathryn Bechen |
 |
Are you and your mate at odds over decorating choices for your home? There are many ways to make your home a place that feels comfortable for both of you, as well as the rest of your family. Contact me if you would like some creative ideas for decorating in a way that makes you both happy.
In the meantime - here's a humorous poem I wrote to help ease the tension!
The couple's home was a nightmare,
With junk everywhere,
Said she, "I can't even sit on my chair!"
"But it's my project for work," said he with a grin,
"And if I move it to my Lazy Boy," I won't even fit in!
"Your Elk head is so ugly, she said with dismay,
"Please hang it in the garage, so I don't have to see it every day!"
"Well your pantyhose are hanging, in the bathroom, and they drip,"said he with a big, pout of his lip.
