Supplies:
-
3-1/3 yds. striped 54" decorator fabric
-
1-1/4 yds. botanical tapestry
-
2 yds. solid lining fabric for backing
-
4 yds. moss edging
-
4 yds. braid
-
Heat-n-bond tape
Directions:
-
Cut two strips of striped fabric 7"x 54" and two
strips 7"x 35", centering desired stripes. These pieces will create
the "frame" for around the wall hanging.
Use a 45 degree angle to cut the ends of each strip
in order to miter the corners. Pin angled ends together, carefully
matching the stripes, forming the "frame". Sew corners starting at the
outside edge and ending stitching 1/2" from center of frame. Press
1/2" seam allowance along inside of "frame" on all four edges.
Center "frame" over the botanical tapestry and pin
pressed 1/2" seam allowance in place. Stitch. Add moss edging and
braid.
For the tabs: cut one piece of the striped fabric
8" x 50". Cut this into five 8"x 10" pieces.
Center an 8"x 10" piece of Heat-n-Bond in the
middle of each piece, fold in edges and press.
For tab bottom: cut one strip of contrasting
striped fabric 2-1/2" x 20" and cut into five 2- 1/2" x 4" pieces.
Place a 2-1/2"x 4" piece of Heat-n-Bond along one edge of contrasting
piece, fold over and press.
Fold tab in half and pleat the bottom. Wrap
contrasting piece around the bottom of tab and stitch or use
Heat-n-Bond to hold in place.
Pin the tabs along the top of the wall hanging
spacing evenly. Cut solid backing fabric to fit the finished front of
the wall hanging adding 1/2" all the way around for seam allowances.
Pin back to front, right sides together. Stitch
along edges starting at the bottom of the wall hanging and continuing
around leaving a 12" opening at the bottom for turning. Trim inside
corner seams and turn right side out. Press and stitch or fuse opening
closed. Hang from decorator drapery rod and embellish with tassels.
