Materials:
- 1 yd. ea. 3
Coordinating decor fabrics (Liz Claiborne Home Fabrics shown)
- 1 pc. 1/2" plywood,
15"x17"
- 1 pc. 3" thick High
density foam, 15"x17"
- 1 pc. 5" thick High
density foam, 15"x17"
- 2 pc. 4" thick High
density foam, 15"x17"
- Fabri-Tac™ permanent
adhesive
- 4 Wooden ball knobs
for feet
- Acrylic paint in
color to coordinate with fabric
- 2 Decorative
buttons, 1"
- Straight pins
- Drill
- Small paintbrush
- Staple gun
Directions:
1. Drill holes in
plywood 2¼" from each corner. Attach wood balls and apply two coats of
acrylic paint. Set aside to dry.
2. Glue 4" foam
pieces together to make an 8"-thick foam rectangle.
3. Place top
pillow fabric right side down on work surface. Lay 3" foam piece in
center of fabric, wrapping fabric around the foam and making hospital
corners. Cut excess fabric, leaving enough to slightly overlap on the
back; glue in place. Be sure top and sides are smooth and neat. Use
straight pins to hold in place while glue dries. Repeat with the 5" foam
and the middle layer fabric.
4. Place
remaining fabric right side down on work surface. Place 8" foam piece on
top of fabric, then plywood piece, feet up, on top of foam. NOTE: Place
foam on fabric so the excess cut off is large enough to make the strap.
(See Step 6.)
5. Wrap fabric
around to plywood making hospital corners as before; cut excess fabric
so fabric only extends about an inch all around on bottom side (foot
side) of plywood. Staple fabric in place.
6. With the
excess fabric from step 5, cut two pieces 61¼2"x36". Turn 1" under on
both long sides of the fabric pieces and glue in place. Overlap finished
ends and glue together. Glue buttons on the overlapped section.
7. Place finished
strap on work surface button-side down. Stack 3" covered foam lengthwise
on the strap finished-side down. Repeat with the 5" piece, then the 8"
piece. Pull strap ends to the back of plywood and staple in place. Cut
off excess length.
