Materials:
- Store bought throw
rug
- 2-4 yd. decorator
fabric for border
- Coordinating thread
- Basic sewing
supplies
- Aleene's Flexible
Stretchable Fabric Glue
- Marking pen
Directions:
1. Determine desired
width of border for around the rug (our rug in the photo has a 6 inch
border). Double that amount and add 1/2" for hem allowances. The length
of the border is equal to twice the length plus the width of the rug.
(You will probably need to sew several strips of fabric together to get
a final piece of fabric long enough to complete the border.)
2. Lay fabric right
side down on a flat surface and measure width of strips onto the fabric
and cut along marked lines.
3. Sew short ends
of fabric together, end to end, forming one long strip. Press seams
open.
4. Press under
1/4" seam allowance on both sides of the long edges. Fold sides together
right side facing out and press.
5. Apply border
by placing the edge of rug between the fold of the fabric and glue in
place with the fabric glue on both sides.
6. Keep gluing
all the way up to the corner of rug. Pin border around the corner to the
next edge of the rug folding diagonally at the corner and glue in place.
Continue all the way around the rug.
7. To finish: Cut
border 1" beyond staring point, turn under 1/2" and glue in place on top
of start of border. |
