Damask:  firm, glossy jacquard-patterned fabric, similar to brocade, but flatter and reversible - it can be made from linen, cotton, rayon or silk, or a combination of fibers.

 
     
Deco:  streamlined designs depicting design motifs from the Art Deco Period  
     
Decoupage:  artistic application of glue, paper and varnish decoratively applied to the surface of any object  
     
Dentil:  rectangular or square elements equally spaced along a piece of molding creating a "tooth" pattern  
     
Distressing: a process used to make wood, paint, or metal look aged  
     
Dormer:  window projecting from a slopped roof set vertically into a gable  
     

Double Faced:  reversible fabric made of two layers sewn or bonded together typically featuring different materials on each face

 
     
Double-Hung Window:  window of two sashes operating to slide past one another in a wood track  
     
Drape:  supple fabric that falls into folds easily  
     
Drapery: decorative fabric hung in folds to create a curtain  
     
Draw Drapery:  window treatment with pleated headings designed to operate on a traverse rod to open and close  
     
Drop Stitch:  stitch dropped to create open spaces  
     
Dupioni:  luxurious silk fabric with fibers from double cocoons offering excellent tensile strength  
     
Duvet Cover:  fabric casing for a comforter
