You Can Easily Paint Your Child a Mural:  Here's How
by:  Fiona Paterson

Until recently, unless you were a reasonably competent artist you would never even have considered painting a mural for your child. Now, with the increase of everything DIY, comes a fabulous array of DIY mural products. Even the most artistically challenged can create a mural to be proud of. There are stencil murals,  paint your own cloud kits, sticker murals and now more and more Paint by Number murals. At the Magic Mural Factory we choose and design paint by number children's murals that give you the ability to create a stunning mural for your child.

Paint by numbers murals
The paint by numbers concept has found it’s way into a increasing selection of well designed murals. All you require is a big helping of your love and an inspired Paint by number design  - Voila! You can create a room your child will remember forever.

When you decide on a paint by numbers mural there are two systems available for tracing the image to the wall.

The transfer paper method
The first option and the most common is using a paper pattern with a transfer paper backing. You tape the pattern to the wall in the position you require and draw over the lines with a ballpoint pen, which transfers the design to the wall. Finally you paint in the colors and outline the design.

The overhead projector method
The second option, (my favorite) is using an overhead projector. The designs come on transparent overhead projector film which you project onto your wall. You can then trace out the design in the size and position you want. The beauty of this system is that you can enlarge the image to a variety of sizes and play around with the position on the wall before you trace the outlines.  (I’ll let you into a little secret…Many professional murals artists like myself, use overhead projectors to enlarge their images. All the drawing work is done before we even get to your house. It’s a quick, easy and effective tool. I wouldn’t be without mine!). Sssh Don't tell!

Overhead projectors can be easily borrowed or hired from Churches, Hire shops, DIY stores, schools or your work place. The designs are generally simple to follow so you would only need to borrow or hire the projector for a day at most.

The final results are very impressive, and not only have you created a fantasy room for your child at a fraction of the cost of a professional muralist, but you will also have the satisfaction of having created something with which you can be proud of.

Give it a go. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.
