While chopping carrots last Sunday
afternoon I was remembering my last visit to Paris and the street market near Blvd St.
Germaine. Often daydreaming is part of my kitchen activities. At lunch
later that day I mentioned the moment to a good friend of mine who is
also a photographer. Two weeks later he appeared at a dinner party with
a large envelope under his arm. Over dinner everyone told travel
adventure stories. Later he came to the kitchen to help with the dishes
and presented the envelope. In it was a beautiful print of a Paris street scene. How could I resist
framing the print and hanging it in the kitchen?
I had never considered placing anything on
the kitchen walls other than the clock and a full rack of expensive pots
and pans. Now the kitchen feels more like the rest of the house.
Step by Step project:
Stand at the counter where you work at most often.
Think of what you love, what is comforting, or what is delicious.
Look for the spaces on the wall that are not filled with spice racks or
equipment.
Measure the sizes of the spaces and write them on a note card.
Get on your computer to find art sites that suite your taste (pun
intended).
Consider the style of the cabinets when framing your pieces.
